Payboom for teachers. A new pay raise for teachers that will go up to 50% has received support from the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers Kuppet union.
According to Akelo Misori, current secretary general of KUPPET, there is a serious need of addressing the issue of teachers’ pay . This will lessen the financial difficulties they experience.
In addition , Misori also discovered that despite recent compensation increases ranging from 7 to 9.5 percent, these money were insufficient to meet teachers expectations.
Misori further highlighted that talks about a potential pay raise are still in progress.

Akelo Misori equally said that they are requesting a salary raise for teachers .
As per to KUPPET, most teachers who get a master’s or doctoral degree while working for a school must also receive fair salary pay .
Kuppet had further insisted on a wage increment of up to 50% as well as teacher promotions that correspond to this increment.
Misori indicated that the compensation should be expanded to teachers who have earned master’s and doctorate degrees during their employment
On the other hand the KNUT Deputy General Secretary Hesborn Otieno added that the union would continue to push for pay hikes. As a result ,this will shield teachers from the present economic difficulties.
Note that these were part of the remarks at the KNUT branch’s annual general meeting on Saturday last week.
