TSC Inspection on Teachers’ Quality Kicks Off, Areas to Prepare on .
Inorder for TSC to ensure proper academic operations in schools, the TSC quality Assurance and Standards Officers, QASOs, act as a link to Standards Division at the Head Quarter.
A good number of JSS teachers have received these officers in this week and there concern is on quality of learning. The exercise will continue till the end of the term.
TSC has the county and subcounty quality assurance directorate who are judged with the responsibility of ensuring that quality teaching takes place in learning institutions.
Note that the Quality Assurance and Standards function has devolved units at County and Sub-county levels.
Areas of interest upon visit the institution learning
Quality Assurance and Standards Officer at the County is responsible to the County Director in undertaking the following duties as they move around schools.
- They are checking on compliance with professional and ethical standards among heads of institution and all teachers in the institution.
- They are checking on whether the heads of institution and teachers adherence to the values and principles of Public Service and promote the Teachers Service Commission’s image and core values
- They check on whether there is proper Maintenance and enforcement of teacher registration in all educational institutions.
- They are monitoring performance of heads and teachers and ensure that all teachers are appraised;
- They are doing advisory and investigative standards assessments with regard to teacher performance and compile appropriate reports
Other duties outside school environment include
- They initiate ,coordinate and conduct capacity building courses for teachers for effective and quality teaching program.
- They ensure Coordination on quality assurance programmes undertaken in the counties
- They ensure that there is continuous support on teachers to comply with standards as specified in TSC Act, Code of Regulations for Teachers, the Basic Education Act, the KICD Act as well as the KNEC Act and any other relevant legislation process.
- They ensure that there is compliance to teaching standards by preparation and use of professional teaching resources.
- They ensure proper analysis of national examinations and continuous assessment results and propose appropriate intervention and ensure that recommendations from evaluation reports are implemented;
- They liaise with the County Director of Education as well as the other stakeholders on matters relating to quality of education in the County;
- They ensure proper performance of any other duties assigned by the County Director
