TSC New Assurance To Teachers Without Bachelor’s Degree
The teachers’ employer,Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has countered the ongoing allegations claiming that the commission had plans to demote primary school head teachers without a bachelor’s degree in education.
As per to the notice released by the commission on Tuesday August 22 , TSC dismissed a circulating article that purported that the employer had initiated a new move on data collection .
The data collected according to the fake news was meant to identify teachers holding P1 certificates and diplomas.
In the TSC update , the notice warned the public to ignore this fake article being circulated through social media platforms.
The inappropriate news further claimed that TSC was to follow the recommendation presented by the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms (PWPER) that proposed the that nursery, primary, and junior schools be under a single principal’s monitory.
The PWPER recommended that the ministry of Education to adopt a Comprehensive School system (PP1 — Grade 9) comprising Pre-Primary, Primary school and Junior School managed as one institution.
According to this committee led by prof Raphael Munavu, the title Secondary be dropped from the current Junior Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools.
When the above proposal was released , concerns among teachers were raised some fearing that it would compel headteachers to pursue further studies. t
While the taskforce was releasing it’s report,it did not advocate for demotion of teachers based on new academic requirements
The education task force had suggested that the Ministry of Education together with TSC should work to ensure implementation of a one-year mandatory retooling program for all pre-service training graduates.
TSC normally conducts the retooling exercise inorder to align with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) as well as to enhance the development and retention of effective teachers.
The committee further proposed that universities establish anew comprehensive Faculty Staff programs thay will see preparation of educators for competency-based teacher training.T
In the new TSC recommendation, TSC would be required to appoint three deputies in each school.
TSC however did not disclosure about the specific details on promotions based on years of service or academic qualifications .
TSC is purportedly said to have asked the school heads prepare information on the teaa teachers’ highest education level (P1, Degree, Masters) in an Excel spreadsheet.
