The three major teacher unions , the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) plus Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (KUSNET) have finally signed a salary deal with their employer, Teachers Service Commission TSC .
These 3 unions signed an agreement to the 2021-25 CBA with the teachers employer that Will see cushioning of teachers against new statutory salary deductions and the high cost of living.
The above agree signing took place at the Kenya School of Government officiated and was officiated by the union’s secretary general.
- Basic salary review of up to 9.5 percent for the lowest-paid teachers
- 2.4 percent for the highest-paid teacher.
TSC has notified teachers that this salary increment will be backdated to July 1st.

I’m addition ,the above agreement will see the house allowances for teachers working in rural areas and small towns being subjected to a review.
As per to the signed CBA, the Teachers currently under Grade C2 which is the entry level for graduate teachers, will have their basic pay rise by up to Sh4,164.
On the other hand , those teachers at C3 will get Sh5,141 as their counterparts in (DS) will earn an increase of Sh4,883.
While participating in these talks, the KUPPET Secretary General Akello Misori strongly opposed a ceiling by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission for teachers on teachers under grade Cs .
The union further said that these 2 sides will revisit the matter administratively once all the data is shared accordingly.

Those teachers that are serving in the rural areas and other emerging towns will also receive a house allowance rise of between Sh2,100 per month for grade C2 and Sh8,700 per month for grade D4.
KUPPET sec gen further promised that the union will continue to negotiate for full harmonisation of house allowances with the rates for Nairobi City, as is the case in commuter allowances
finally , the full harmonisation of house allowance was a key demand of teachers’ unions addition to the basic pay increase of between 30-70 percent.
Teachers are now assured that they will receive their salaries before the end of the month.
