TSC To Close Applications for Teacher Open promotions Slots on Friday .
The teachers’ employer Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has set a deadline for teacher applications for 36,000 open promotions slots to be on Friday 8th September 2023.
Through the TSC circular, the teachers’ promotion plan is meant to address concerns regarding teacher career progression as well as successful salary negotiation results.
Declared promotion slots will encompass nine different grade levels and are expected to be spread across all primary and secondary schools plus the teacher-training colleges.
TSC declared a total of 12,716 positions available for senior master levels and an additional of 10,819 teachers are expected to advance to senior teacher positions in traditional primary schools.
Tsc also set a side a total of 700 positions are for senior teachers in special needs institutions.It also declared 216 positions for Grade C4 senior lecturers available in the various teacher-training colleges.
There are another 108 senior principal slots as well as34 chief principal positions.
TSC asked all the eligible and interested candidates to submit their applications through the TSC portal.
The declaration of more promotion slots came just a week after the TSC promoted 14,000 teachers who are currently awaiting promotions since the previous financial year.
2023-2024 financial budget saw an increment in funding allocated to the education sector than the other previous years.
While releasing the budget,the current Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u proposed a budget allocation of KSh 628.6 billion for the education ministry.
The allocation of the above proposed budget saw a total of KSh 12.5 billion earmarked for free primary education, as KSh 65.4 billion was set aside to support free day secondary school education.
The above money further was directed to encompass insurance and National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) coverage for secondary school students.
The new competence curriculum got KSh 25.5 billion is for junior secondary school capitation as another KSh 5 billion was allocated for examination fee waivers.
The budget also allocated another KSh 4.8 billion, money meant to facilitate the recruitment of 20,000 intern teachers across all the public schools.
