Worrying Trend on How Current TSC Teacher recruitment Has Shifted to UDA Politicians .
The Kenya law provides that teacher recruitment is purely under the Teachers Survice Commission that is fully responsible for teacher employment in the country.
A new worrying trend has emerged in the recent days where politicians have taken it upon themselves to hand out TSC recruitment letters at public events for instance during funerals.
In the most recent event ,the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu handed over the TSC recruitment letter to a qualified teacher during the funeral of Nyamaiya Ward MCA of Getaari High School.
Some of the teachers who graduated earlier have been left with a lot of worries upon witnessing the similar incidents reported elsewhere.
The current trend in the TSC has been condemned by Homa Bay Town MP, Hon Peter Kaluma who expressed his displeasure over the situation.
Mr. Kaluma called for a fair and transparent recruitment process at TSC to truly reflect the diversity of Kenya’s population.
The member of Parliament further expressed that legitimate concern that politicians appeared to have encroached on TSC’s responsibilities which essentially means that it is marginalizing the independent organization.
Kaluma said that the teacher recruitment process was agreed upon by the politicians of the United Democratic Alliance, hence leaving the TSC on the sidelines when it should have been primarily responsible for this task.
The teachers service commission TSC is designed to operate independently and deserves the freedom to carry out its important mission of teacher recruitment without outside interference.
In addition, it is important to remember that the actions of politicians on this issue have far-reaching consequences, more especially for teachers who have been waiting for jobs, some of whom have been waiting for jobs for a long time.
The issue of members of Parliament as well as the ministers dishing out letters is disadvantaging many qualified educators, including those who graduated some time ago.
Equally, the mps practice lowers TSC ‘s integrity on the credibility of the recruitment.
According to TSC requirements,it is paramount to ensure fairness and equal opportunity for all aspiring teachers in Kenya.
