26 NTSA’s Fines And Penalties For Traffic Offences In Kenya .
National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has listed a number of road offenses that could get you in trouble with the law.
As a result, the NTSA Traffic Act lays out the rules, regulations as well as penalties related to road users.
In addition, NTSA is always keeping watch on eliminating some reckless behaviors by passengers and drivers on the road by properly implementing all the traffic rules and regulations.
NTSA had previously outlined the fines payable via mobile phones, with offenders receiving a standard receipt from the police. It was proposed that offenders would be required to fill out four similar forms and retain a copy while another would remain in the offender’s file. The other two forms would be issued to the police and NTSA for credibility.
Here is the list of the offences and theirrespective penalities.
- Driver’s failure to stop when asked to do so by a police officer in uniform – penalty is Ksh. 5,000
- Drivers obstructing the road with vehicle in a manner that inconveniences other motorists or prevents the flow of traffic – penalty is Ksh. 10,000
- Individuals driving without a valid driving license that corresponds to the class of the vehicle being driven –penalty is Ksh. 7,000
- One driving a vehicle that does have identification plates affixed or if they’ve been placed incorrectly – penalty is Ksh. 10,000
- Indicate driving on or through a pedestrian walkway or pavement –penalty is Ksh. 5,000
- Driver’s failure to obey traffic signs – penalty is Ksh. 3,000
- Driver’s failure to display lifesavers in the case where any part of the vehicle remains on the road in a position to obstruct or cause obstruction – penalty is Ksh. 3,000
- Driver’s failure / vehicle to carry lifesavers –penalty Ksh. 2,000
- Driver Learners failing to exhibit ‘L’ plates on front and rear of the vehicle – penalty Ksh. 1,000
- Driver failing to use a mobile phone –penalty Ksh. 2,000
- Ones failure to produce a driving license on demand – Ksh. 1,000
- Drivers’ failure to renew a driving license -penalty Ksh. 1,000
- Driver’s failure / vehicle to have seat belts – Ksh. 10,000 for every seat that doesn’t have a seat belt or if the seat belts are not of the proper standard.
- Drivers’ failure of a vehicle to carry lifesavers – Ksh. 2,000
- Driver’s failure to display lifesavers in the case where any part of the vehicle remains on the road in a position to obstruct or cause obstruction – Ksh. 3,000
- Driver’s failure /vehicle to have seat belts – Ksh. 10,000 for every seat that doesn’t have a seat belt or if the seat belts are not of the proper standard.
- Drivers’ failure to wear a seat belt while the vehicle is in motion penalty is -Ksh. 500
- One driving a PSV while being unqualified -penalty Ksh. 7,000
- Individual driver of the PSV who lets an unauthorized person drive – penalty Ksh. 5,000
- unlicensed individual acting as the conductor or driver of the PSV – penalty Ksh. 5,000
- Individuals with PSV picking and dropping passengers at areas that are not the designated bus stops –penalty Ksh. 1,000
- Driver who fails to fit prescribed speed governors in vehicles – Ksh. 10,000
- One travelling with a part of the body outside a moving vehicle –penalty lty Ksh. 1,000
- Individuals touting –penalty Ksh. 3,000
- Individual motorcycle rider riding without protective gear -penalty Ksh. 1,000
- Any Motorcycle passenger riding without protective gear –penalty Ksh. 1,000
- One’s failure to keep seat belts in a clean and wearable condition – penalty Ksh. 500
- With the new rates, a 1 to 5km/hr outstrip will earn you a warning. Those caught exceeding by 6 to 10 km/hr will shell out Ksh, 500, and for 11 to 15 km/hr, Ksh. 5,000. 16 to 20 km/hr surpass will see you pay a Ksh. 10,000 levy.
