SRC Allowances Scrapped .Salaries and renumeration commission (SRC) on Monday announced its new plan that will see it soon suspend certain benefits provided to state officers. The SRC decision is expected to have a broad implications for government employees in different roles within Ministries, various Departments as well as other Agencies (MDAs).
Some of the allowances to be lost include plenary sitting allowance, ministerial allowance, and taxable automobile allowance , these are allowances that will no longer be disbursed.
Some of the other benefits, include retreat allowance, some institutional internal committee sitting allowance plus some taskforce allowance for institutional internal committees that will also be affected by this change.
SRC Allowances Scrapped.
As per to the SRC official, the above six allowances have already ceased being paid.
Retreat allowance is granted to public servants who are involved in special tasks as per an SRC circular from August 2023.
The above payment is exclusively provided to state officers that work on policy documents outside of their regular offices.
The SRC contended that granting a Sitting Allowance to Institutional Internal Committee Members on top of their standard salary amounted to double compensation, stating that these committees are formed to execute the institution’s mandate.
In June this year 2023, President Ruto gave a proposal that the SRC should explore measures to reduce compensation for high-ranking state officers in an effort to curb the country’s rising wage expenditure.
