Blow To Students Taking Diploma and Certificate Course In Universities .
Government financing has announced that funds are not available to students who choose to enroll in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs under universities both public and private.
As per to Agnes Wahome, Kenya Universities and Colleges Placement Service KUCCPS chief officer,the above category also covers university-based diploma and certificate programs offered in these institutions .
Wahome indicated that there are some universities that are offering diploma and certificate courses and they have Tvet schools within the university but there are not eligible receive government scholarship.
Wahome observed that there are roughly 200 Tvet institutions under the Ministry of Education.Students under the above tvet institutions will have access to government grants and loans adding that the practice has existed for some time.

Learners are going to get funds under Three categories. Those who are less vulnerable, the more vulnerable,and the able .
In this this new funding model, this is the first time, learners from low-income families will have equitable access to higher education and TVET opportunities. Families of these learners not required to contribute in any way to their children’s education, as per to the president directive.New Education funding model, as per to the President takes off at the start of the following fiscal year.
A population of 145,325 learners who will enroll in TVET institutions and equally 173,127 students are expected to enroll in universities will both benefit from the concept.
The President pledged an increment in funding for higher education to Sh84.6 billion in the fiscal year 2023–2024, which is a 56% increase over the present budget.
The head of state further stated that the new investment consists of a Sh.53 billion budgetary allocation and a Sh31.6 billion HELB loan component.
