Another Boom For Teachers After SRC Assigns Teachers New Allowances
Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) had made a significant adjustments to the rates of Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA),the allowance is commission known to teachers as travel allowance.
The beneficiaries of the allowance include the civil servants and teachers .
The money is paid to cater for especially for local travel purposes.
SRC updated these updated rates so as to ensure fair compensation for the expenses that incurred by individuals during official travel.
The above move is detailed in a circular dated August 7, 2023 and personally signed by SRC President Lyn Mengich. The allowance covers all urban centers, the district capitals as well as many other cities .
Categories of teachers to benefit
1. B5, C1 teacher level :
This is for educators in grades B5 (elementary school teacher II) and C1 (secondary school teacher III, lecturer III, elementary school teacher I), revised daily living allowance has been set at 6,300 Ksh.
2. C2, C3, C4, C5 teachers :
C2 (secondary teacher II, SNE II-elementary teacher, lecturer II, senior teacher II), C3 (secondary teacher I, lecturer I, SNE I-elementary teacher , SNE II-high school teacher, senior teacher I), C4 (Instructor IV, Lecturer IV, SNE Senior Teacher – Primary, the SNE Teacher I – Secondary, the Deputy Director II) and C5 (Senior Master III, Lecturer III, Director, Deputy Director I,the Program Support Director II) currently receive a daily living allowance of Ksh 11,200.
3. D1, D2, D3, D4, D5 teacher levels;
D1 (Master II, Principal III, Principal, the Senior Instructor II, Program Support Officer I), D2 (Senior Principal II, Senior I, Senior Lecturer I), D3 (Director, Deputy Director I), D4 (Senior Director) and D5 (Director) will benefit from an increased daily living allowance of Ksh 14,000 .
In addition, the SRC circular clearly states that this update replaces all previous circulars related to pension benefits,the working group allowances,the session allowances for organizing committees internal and DSA (domestic and international travel) in the public sector.
SRC ‘ comprehensive review aims to ensure that there is maximum fairness and transparent remuneration structure for civil servants, thereby facilitating their work-related travel needs.
