TSC Suspends Teacher Transfer
The Teachers Service Commission TSC will not issue teacher transfer and leaves for the coming two or three months to allow planning and administration of 2023 national exams.
The commission is currently working on how teachers will invigilate and supervise the coming Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) as well as the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
In this year, there is around 1,415,315 candidates expected to sit for KCPE exam.
Three is also nother 903,260 students will take the KCSE test as another number of 1,282,574 learners in Grade Six learners will also sit for KPSEA.
TSC revealed resumption of mass transfer of teachers for teachers with suitable replacements in December 2023 as away of ensuring balancing in schools.
On teacher transfer, there are 26,871 teachers as revealed by Machogu,that have not been transferred back by TSC to their home counties due to a lack of suitable placements
Around 46,926 primary and secondary school, as of June this year had requested for TSC teacher transfers back to their home counties, however details show that it is only 20,055 whose transfers were successful.
Hon Machogu who appeared before the Senate revealed that TSC will ensure that the station the teacher seeks transfer has a suitable replacement as well as existence of a vacancy in the station to which the teacher has applied for transfer has a vacancy.
The CS further noted that the in the exercise of its mandate to transfer and post teachers,the commission must ensure equitable distribution and optimal utilisation of teachers in all public basic education institutions . This will to ensure that learners throughout the country have access to quality education as required by Article 43 of the Constitution.
Machogu equally revealed that TSC had introduced delocalisation where the teacher transfer was effected to schools outside their place of origin-to promote national cohesion and integration.
The move was also meant to prevent conflict of interest in the management of schools and address teacher shortages in some parts of the country.
